Arrest of a radicalized individual adopting the extremist ideology of the terrorist organization “Daesh” in Taourirt

On January 15, 2025, judicial police officers in the city of Taourirt arrested a radicalized individual who supported the extremist ideology of the terrorist group “Daesh,” following intelligence provided by the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance. The man, a teacher in the “Sidi Chafi” area of Taourirt, was under investigation as part of Morocco’s ongoing efforts to combat terrorist threats and prevent extremist plots that jeopardize the kingdom’s security.

During the search of his home, authorities seized suspicious chemicals, including bottles containing hydrochloric acid, hydrogen peroxide, and zinc sulfate. These substances could potentially be used in the production of homemade explosive devices. Additionally, various bladed weapons and electronic devices, including phones and digital storage media, were found and confiscated.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had gathered information on materials and substances needed to make explosives. He was also training in the preparation of these devices with the intent to carry out terrorist attacks, aiming to seriously endanger the safety of citizens and disrupt public order.

The suspect was transferred to the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), where he was placed in police custody for further investigation. Under the supervision of the public prosecutor specializing in terrorism cases, authorities are seeking to uncover all the terrorist objectives the individual had planned, as well as determine if he had any accomplices or supporters in his criminal endeavors.

This arrest is part of Morocco’s ongoing efforts to counter the dangers posed by radical ideologies and protect its citizens from acts of extremist violence. The kingdom continues to demonstrate its determination to maintain stability and security within its borders in the face of the terrorism threat.
