Media close to the Algerian military regime have recently attempted to discredit reports that Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf had asked his Syrian counterpart, Ahmed Charâa, for the extradition of Polisario Front members and several Algerian soldiers. These claims were labeled as “baseless rumors” and “malicious media campaigns,” allegedly spread by Moroccan sources.
However, the real surprise came from official media, as the “Syrian Television” channel and “Monte Carlo International” radio confirmed the information. They revealed that Syria’s transitional president, Ahmed Charâa, had indeed rejected the request from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who sought the release of Polisario elements and Algerian soldiers who had joined the ranks of the Syrian regime in its fight against the revolution.
This sharp denial, relayed by Syrian and international media sources, highlights the glaring contradiction between Algeria’s official narrative and the actual facts. The gap between the version promoted by Algerian authorities and the revelations of the foreign press raises questions about the regime’s communication strategy.
This development places the Algiers regime, once again, in a delicate situation, forcing it either to revise its official stance or to find an alternative explanation to appease public opinion. A difficult maneuver, as it further exposes the already obvious contradictions in the government’s official communication.
This case underscores the contradictions of the Algerian regime, caught red-handed in disinformation after denying an extradition request confirmed by international media. By attempting to manipulate public opinion, the government reveals its limits in the face of an independent press capable of uncovering the truth.
