Abdellatif Hammouchi awarded the Prince Nayef Medal for Arab Security: recognition of his key role in regional and international stability

Last Sunday in Tunis, the Director General of National Security (DGSN) and Territorial Surveillance (DGST) of Morocco, Mr. Abdellatif Hammouchi, was honored with the Prince Nayef Medal for Arab Security of the First Class. This distinction, one of the most prestigious in the field of Arab security, was awarded to Mr. Hammouchi for his exceptional contributions to security and stability in the Arab world. This award highlights the importance of his efforts to strengthen regional and international cooperation in security matters.

The medal ceremony took place during the 42nd session of the Arab Interior Ministers Council. It was in this context that the Secretariat General of the Prince Nayef Prize designated Mr. Hammouchi to receive this distinction. The DGSN communiqué specified that this medal is recognition of his commitment and his “fruitful efforts in strengthening joint security action” and his leadership role in international forums.

The Prince Nayef Medal, which is one of the most prestigious in the Arab region, is awarded to individuals who have made exceptional achievements in the field of security. It is particularly given to those who have played a significant role in maintaining peace and security at the Arab level. Through this distinction, Morocco, under the leadership of Mr. Hammouchi, sees its commitment to regional stability and its ability to face international security challenges widely recognized.

The award also reflects Morocco’s central role in Arab world security. The country is asserting itself as a pillar of regional stability thanks to the security strategy implemented by Mr. Hammouchi. His leadership in the fight against terrorism, organized crime, and other emerging threats has strengthened Morocco’s position as a key security actor. Under his direction, large-scale initiatives have been implemented, such as operations to dismantle terrorist cells and prevent attacks before they happen.

This award also highlights Mr. Hammouchi’s commitment to international cooperation. Morocco has strengthened its relationships with organizations such as INTERPOL, Europol, and with intelligence agencies from various Arab and Western countries. This cooperation has helped advance security in the Arab region and opened new avenues for global collaboration in facing common challenges, as was highlighted during the 92nd INTERPOL General Assembly in Glasgow in 2024.

The distinction of Mr. Hammouchi is also a recognition of Morocco’s leadership in global security. During the INTERPOL General Assembly, Mr. Hammouchi led the Moroccan delegation to discuss global security issues, an event that strengthened Morocco’s position as a regional and global leader. The upcoming 2025 INTERPOL General Assembly, to be held in Marrakech, is another milestone in this process of strengthening Moroccan influence.

Finally, this distinction highlights Mr. Hammouchi’s efforts to promote security cooperation with countries from the Gulf, the Maghreb, and Europe. Thanks to a proactive strategy of information exchange and police training, Morocco is positioning itself as a central player in regional security forums. Mr. Hammouchi’s leadership continues to strengthen Morocco’s position as a key partner in the fight against terrorism and the preservation of peace.
