The Algerian Mirage: Between Lies and Disillusionment Following UK Recognition of Morocco’s Sahara Plan

The Algerian regime continues to deploy a strategy based on misinformation and manipulation to hide its impotence in the face of the diplomatic developments favoring Morocco. Through repetitive propaganda, it tries to convince its public that the confrontation with the Kingdom is under control and that its diplomacy is leading the way.
However, this stance is merely a smokescreen following the clear support from the United Kingdom for Morocco’s autonomy plan for the Sahara, now considered the most serious and credible solution by the international community. This diplomatic blow has deeply destabilized Algiers, leaving it with no room to maneuver.
The official statement from the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs perfectly illustrates this contradiction: on one hand, it rejects British support; on the other, it falsely claims that the UK backs the Sahrawi right to self-determination. This confusing double narrative reflects the disorientation of Algerian authorities.
Faced with irrefutable reality, Algerian spokespeople unsuccessfully tried to divert attention by accusing Western powers of colonialism and complicity with Morocco. These accusations appear as a childish refuge to avoid acknowledging diplomatic defeat.
To justify their impotence, they refer to past colonizations and international conflicts, including Gibraltar, Israeli policies, and Spain’s colonial past. According to them, Morocco’s diplomatic progress mainly stems from its normalization with Israel, an attempt at discreditation that convinces few.
In reality, this diplomatic crisis highlights the decline of Algiers’ ability to influence the Western Sahara issue. While Rabat gains international legitimacy, Algeria’s strategy crumbles, paving the way for a future where the Sahrawi cause will be definitively resolved according to Morocco’s plan.
