Ireland Explores the Economic Potential of Morocco’s Sahara During Visit to Dakhla

As part of parallel diplomacy and the strengthening of international cooperation, the President of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab Regional Council, Yanja El Khattat, welcomed a high-level delegation from the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday at the council’s headquarters.
During the meeting, the Irish representatives were presented with Dakhla’s main economic assets, particularly in infrastructure, maritime investment, and sustainable development. Ongoing structural projects, such as the Dakhla Atlantic Port and the seawater desalination plant, were also showcased as key drivers of growth.
In his address, El Khattat emphasized the strategic importance of the region, describing it as a vital bridge between Morocco and sub-Saharan Africa, as well as a major Atlantic gateway open to the world.
This visit follows the recent reception of a high-level U.S. delegation, highlighting the growing international interest in Dakhla as a promising investment hub, fully aligned with Morocco’s national orientations and the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
According to observers, this diplomatic momentum takes on particular significance ahead of the upcoming UN Security Council session in October and the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Green March, reflecting the international community’s increasing support for Morocco’s autonomy initiative as the realistic solution to the Sahara dispute.
