Nasser Bourita holds talks in Moscow with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov

Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, held talks on Thursday in Moscow with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov. The meeting was part of the Enhanced Strategic Partnership established in March 2016 between His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, and President Vladimir Putin. Discussions reaffirmed the strength of bilateral ties and a shared vision for constructive and lasting dialogue.

Both ministers praised the momentum generated by their Heads of State, whose insightful vision continues to guide and enrich Morocco-Russia cooperation. They highlighted the quality of bilateral relations, marked by mutual respect, converging views on many international issues, and a shared determination to deepen collaboration across multiple sectors.

During the meeting, Bourita and Lavrov signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing a Morocco-Russia Working Committee between the two foreign ministries. This new cooperation mechanism will assess the state of the partnership, evaluate ongoing projects, and identify new high-value collaboration opportunities.

At the regional and international levels, discussions covered several issues of common concern, including the situations in North Africa, the Sahel, and the Middle East. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to stability, respect for state sovereignty, and the pursuit of peaceful solutions to regional crises.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Bourita co-chaired, with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev, the 8th session of the Morocco-Russia Joint Cooperation Commission. This visit continues the efforts initiated during the Royal Visits to Moscow in 2002 and 2016, which marked key milestones in Morocco-Russia relations, reaffirming both nations’ shared commitment to a long-term, forward-looking partnership.
