Interpol Marrakech 2025: Morocco at the Heart of Global Security Cooperation

The 93rd Interpol General Assembly opened this Monday in Marrakech, bringing together security and diplomatic delegations from all 196 member countries. The opening ceremony attracted a wide range of Moroccan and international officials, marking the start of a session focused on cooperation and the exchange of expertise.

The official opening was highlighted by speeches from the Director General of the National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Abdellatif Hammouchi, and the President of Interpol, General-Major Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi. Their interventions emphasized the importance of strengthening global coordination in the face of transnational threats and new forms of crime.

The Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, and other senior officials also attended the ceremony, demonstrating the national significance of this event. Present as well were the First President of the Court of Cassation, the King’s Attorney General, and the General Delegate of the Penitentiary Administration and Reintegration, reflecting the institutional and global scope of the session.

In his speech, Hammouchi highlighted Morocco’s central role in strengthening international security. He presented the Moroccan model, based on an integrated approach that combines operational efficiency, respect for human rights, and adaptation to emerging threats, particularly in the digital domain, which has become a fertile ground for criminal and terrorist networks.

The Director General also stressed the need to build shared security structures and rapid, reliable cooperation mechanisms among states. According to him, only a strong and equitable partnership can effectively address transnational crime and terrorist threats that go beyond physical borders and national legal frameworks.

The inaugural session also featured the projection of a video retracing the evolution of Morocco’s police institution over the years. This visual testimony highlighted the Kingdom’s expertise in combating terrorism and organized crime, reinforcing its credibility on the international stage.

The 93rd General Assembly is the world’s largest gathering of law enforcement leaders. It provides member countries with a unique platform to exchange experiences, identify major criminal trends, and define common strategies to tackle contemporary security challenges.

Key topics of this session include combating transnational organized crime, dismantling fraud centers, strengthening Interpol’s policing capacities, and promoting the role of women in law enforcement. The pilot project “Notice d’argent” and the ratification of the United Nations Convention on Cybercrime are also on the agenda.

Morocco’s selection as host reflects international recognition of its expertise and institutional stability. Under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Kingdom positions itself as a key player in global security, capable of coordinating and inspiring international initiatives against terrorism and organized crime.

The session, which will continue until November 27, will elect new members of the Executive Committee, including the President of Interpol, and adopt strategic resolutions on the organization’s general policy, resources, and working methods. This confirms the central role of the General Assembly in promoting effective and cooperative global policing.
