Strategic Meeting: Hammouchi Receives the UN Police Chief on the Sidelines of Interpol

On the sidelines of the 93rd Interpol General Assembly, held in Marrakech from November 24 to 27, the Director General of the DGSN-DGST pole, Mr. Abdellatif Hammouchi, met with Mr. Faisal Shahkar, United Nations Adviser on Police Matters at the Department of Peace Operations (DPO) and Under-Secretary-General for the Rule of Law. The meeting took place in the iconic Menara Gardens, one of the main venues hosting this major global security event.

During the meeting, Mr. Shahkar reaffirmed the UN’s interest in deepening cooperation with Moroccan security services. He highlighted the Department of Peace Operations’ intention to rely more on Moroccan expertise to strengthen the capabilities of UN police forces, both at the New York headquarters and in various missions deployed in conflict zones.

The UN official praised the competence and operational experience of Moroccan forces, describing them as key assets for international operations. Their field experience, advanced level of training, and proficiency in several foreign languages are, according to him, essential elements for effective deployment in different regions worldwide. This acknowledgment reflects the growing international confidence in Morocco’s security and peacekeeping professionalism.

This meeting is part of a series of bilateral consultations led by Mr. Hammouchi with representatives of foreign delegations and international organizations present in Marrakech. The aim is to consolidate security partnerships, strengthen international coordination, and jointly address the rising challenges of cross-border crime, contributing to global security and regional stability.
