Loubna El Joud calls for respect of Morocco’s true heroes amid smear campaigns

In a recent emotionally charged video, activist and professor Loubna El Joud spoke out against the relentless smear campaign targeting Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director General of the DGST/DGSN pole. To her, it is incomprehensible that this man, who has earned his reputation through hard work, loyalty, and seriousness both in Morocco and abroad, is subjected to repeated attacks. Hammouchi, she points out, is a man of the people — a discreet yet effective official whose career was built on merit rather than political appointment.
Loubna El Joud strongly condemns those who criticize Hammouchi for making headlines. In her view, recognizing merit is not a fault, but quite the opposite. She reminds us that anyone who works selflessly for the nation’s security and stability deserves praise, especially when targeted by foreign-orchestrated campaigns aimed at weakening Moroccan institutions. She specifically cites the case of Hicham Jerando, a renegade exiled in Canada, whose defamatory attacks against Moroccan security officials are, in her opinion, signs of malicious intent.
Another important point raised by the activist is the silence — or even complicity — of some Moroccans living abroad, particularly in Canada, in the face of these campaigns. She fears that compatriots, instead of defending their national institutions, remain passive out of indifference or ignorance, while attacks threaten the Kingdom’s stability. For Loubna El Joud, patriotism is not just distant attachment; it also means taking a firm stand in support of those who protect the country daily.
Furthermore, she highlights that Morocco is full of true heroes, often unknown, who work effectively behind the scenes. She praises in particular Nasser Bourita, who skillfully leads Moroccan diplomacy, and Fouzi Lekjaa, whose work has profoundly transformed national sports. These remarkable men nevertheless face criticism often fueled by envy and external interests.
At the heart of her message is Abdellatif Hammouchi, whom she describes as the “guardian of Moroccan security.” She denounces the personal attacks against him, which go far beyond professional critique and descend into defamation and slander. In her eyes, campaigns led by figures like Jerando are nothing but manifestations of irrational hatred, but they will never tarnish the reputation of a man whose achievements speak for themselves.
Loubna El Joud calls on Moroccans, both at home and abroad, to recognize and defend those who contribute to the Kingdom’s prestige and security. She urges overcoming jealousy and doubt to support national symbols, especially those like Abdellatif Hammouchi who embody a true Moroccan success story founded on competence, determination, and service to the homeland.
