Libya: UN representative praises Morocco’s commitment

During an official visit to Rabat, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Hanna Serwaa Tetteh, praised Morocco’s active commitment to the Libyan peace process. Following her meeting with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, she expressed her “deep appreciation” for the Kingdom’s role in facilitating dialogue among Libyan parties.

Ms. Tetteh emphasized Morocco’s importance as a “very important partner” in the diplomatic efforts aimed at bringing Libyan stakeholders closer together. According to her, the Kingdom has played a significant role in helping to overcome several “crucial” stages toward a lasting political solution.

The UN diplomat also spoke about the current situation in Libya, describing it as a “particularly sensitive phase,” marked by ongoing tensions in Tripoli and challenges surrounding municipal elections. She noted that these difficulties call for close cooperation between Libyan actors and international partners.

Finally, Ms. Tetteh reaffirmed UNSMIL’s determination to continue working alongside the Libyan people, with the support of Morocco and the international community, to help end the crisis. She stressed the need to maintain consistent political support to guide Libya toward peace and stability.
