The Moroccan Association for Victims’ Rights (AMDV) advocates for better protection for victims of sexual assaults in Morocco.

On Thursday, December 26, 2024, the Moroccan Association for Victims’ Rights (AMDV) held a press conference to draw attention to the major challenges faced by victims of sexual assaults in Morocco. Speaking to a group of national media outlets, the association addressed key issues related to the protection and support of victims while denouncing the obstacles hindering their pursuit of justice.
The AMDV emphasized the urgent need to ensure better protection for victims throughout judicial procedures. The association highlighted the importance of compassionate and appropriate treatment that considers the psychological and health needs of victims. It also expressed deep concern about the difficult conditions faced by women, especially those who have suffered sexual assaults, during court trials. These women, often deprived of adequate compensation and psychological support, struggle to reintegrate into society after such traumatic experiences.
The association strongly condemned the statements made by Toufik Bouachrine, who was convicted of sexual assaults, for advocating journalistic ethics while having committed serious crimes. The AMDV denounced the hypocrisy of these claims, arguing that they discredit not only their authors but also the efforts of victims to achieve justice and respect. According to the association, such declarations undermine the fight against impunity and hinder progress in defending the rights of victims.
Similarly, the AMDV criticized the contempt shown by journalist Soulaimane Raissouni towards women journalists, describing his remarks as a blatant lack of respect for the rights of victims. The association pointed out Raissouni’s inconsistencies, noting how he initially denied the allegations before later admitting to them, and condemned any attempt by perpetrators to downplay or whitewash their actions.
The association also criticized the controversial role of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights (AMDH), accusing it of failing to effectively defend victims and compromising their right to justice by disclosing sensitive information. According to the AMDV, such behavior weakens the fight against sexual violence and discourages victims from coming forward to report crimes.
Despite these challenges, the AMDV reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to supporting victims of sexual assaults. It denounced defamation campaigns and attempts to intimidate victims, calling for collective mobilization to ensure fair access to justice, adequate compensation, and dignified social reintegration for victims.
