Fatah’s SG reaffirms support for Morocco’s territorial integrity

The Secretary General of Fatah’s Central Committee, Jibril Rajoub, expressed his strong support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, including the Sahara, during a meeting held in Ramallah with Morocco’s ambassador to Palestine, Abderrahim Meziane. This gesture, reported by the Palestinian news agency WAFA, puts an end to the controversy sparked by the Palestinian leader’s previous statements, which had caused discontent in Morocco.
During the meeting, Jibril Rajoub and Abderrahim Meziane discussed bilateral cooperation in key areas such as youth, sports, and exploration. They emphasized the importance of delegations’ exchanges as a cornerstone for strengthening relations between the two nations. This commitment reflects a shared desire to consolidate their collaboration in various strategic sectors.
Rajoub also praised Morocco’s role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in defending the Palestinian cause, particularly as chairman of the Al-Quds Committee. This acknowledgment highlights Morocco’s significant contribution to international efforts to protect Palestinian rights.
During the encounter, the Palestinian leader congratulated Morocco for being chosen as a co-host of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, alongside Spain and Portugal. He highlighted the country’s logistical and human capacities, from Tangier to Laayoune, implicitly sending a message of support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara.
With this statement, Jibril Rajoub rectifies remarks made in July 2023 during a visit to Algeria, which were interpreted as opposing Morocco’s position on the Sahara. His current stance reaffirms Palestinian support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, further strengthening the ties between the two nations.
