François Hollande Calls for a Firm Response to Algeria’s Provocations

In an interview with the television channel “BFM,” former French President François Hollande stressed the need for France to respond firmly to the repeated provocations of the Algerian government.

During his speech, Hollande mentioned the case of an Algerian citizen in an irregular situation in France, whose return was repeatedly refused by Algerian authorities. This individual later carried out an attack in the city of Mulhouse, resulting in one death and several injuries.

Describing this situation as “unacceptable,” the former president emphasized that France must adopt a stricter approach to such challenges. He specifically called for the strict implementation of bilateral agreements between Paris and Algiers, particularly concerning the deportation of irregular migrants.

Hollande also pointed out that this stance is not new in French politics. As an example, he referred to recent statements made by François Bayrou, who, just days earlier, had stressed the importance of respecting legal commitments between the two countries.

This latest development further fuels diplomatic tensions between France and Algeria, amid ongoing disagreements over migration management and security cooperation.
