The Moroccan Press Denounces Defamation Campaigns Against Professional Journalists

The Moroccan press, through the National Association of Media and Publishers, expresses its concern over targeted attacks against professional journalists and the spread of harmful practices within the media sector. The association strongly condemns defamation campaigns aimed at discrediting the profession and blurring the lines between journalism and digital content creation.

In an official statement, the association highlighted that these orchestrated attacks seek to undermine the role of the media as a pillar of credible information. It warns against the dangers of individuals falsely claiming journalist status, exploiting regulatory gaps to turn misinformation and manipulation into profitable revenue sources.

The National Association of Media and Publishers calls for stricter regulation of the sector to distinguish between professionals bound by ethical and legal standards and content creators operating without oversight. It laments the negative impact of this confusion on public perception of journalism and emphasizes the need for a robust legal framework to preserve the integrity of the profession.

The association also draws attention to the increasing number of attacks from abroad via certain platforms aiming to weaken the credibility of Moroccan institutions. Faced with this growing threat, it urges authorities to take firm measures to counter these destabilization attempts.

The association reaffirms its commitment to defending journalists’ rights and combating the proliferation of harmful content. It supports the efforts of the temporary commission managing the press sector and the Journalism Ethics Committee in strengthening regulations and ensuring a healthier media landscape.

Finally, it calls for cooperation between institutional actors and civil society to ensure responsible journalism and uphold citizens’ right to reliable, independent, and high-quality information.
