Maati Monjib: A victimization contradicted by the facts

As part of his relentless campaign against the Moroccan judicial authorities that prevented him, by virtue of a decision from an investigating judge, from leaving the national territory, activist Maâti Monjib staged a sit-in on April 4, 2025, in front of the headquarters of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) in Rabat. This was a desperate attempt to deceive the public, making them believe that he is the victim of judicial harassment restricting his right to travel abroad.
However, the reception he received from the CNDH to hear his point of view shatters his biased narrative aimed at questioning the impartiality of Moroccan justice and denouncing an alleged political persecution. Indeed, this constitutional institution, recognized for its constant commitment to protecting rights and freedoms, has always closely monitored judicial proceedings, strictly adhering to its responsibilities set out in its founding regulations, without interfering in the judiciary’s role.
In reality, this all seems to be a theatrical piece skillfully orchestrated by Maâti Monjib, who knows perfectly well, as do those who support him, that the real reason for his restriction from leaving Moroccan territory has nothing to do with any judicial harassment, but is a measure legally motivated by his prosecution for the misappropriation of foreign funds accumulated through his so-called journalistic investigation center, “Ibn Rochd.”
An open secret: this case is not related to his journalistic activities, as Monjib’s supporters claim, but rather to dubious financial practices, whose existence is hard to deny, given the material evidence gathered by the authorities.

Not only is Maâti Monjib trying to manipulate public opinion by playing the victim card, but he has also had the audacity to contact circles known for their hostility toward Morocco to spread a distorted version of the facts. This is how he used the Iberian media outlet “El Independiente,” a publication known for its anti-Moroccan propaganda, to spread a biased narrative in which he portrays himself as a victim of an allegedly illegal measure and as a man systematically harassed by Moroccan justice.
Finally, some international media covering this case simply relay Maâti Monjib’s version of events, without conducting a real analysis or confronting the facts. By systematically overlooking the objective elements of the ongoing investigation and failing to verify the accuracy of the accusations, these media contribute to spreading a partial and one-sided narrative.
