Morocco launches humanitarian initiative for amputee and orphaned children in Gaza

On April 13, 2025, the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Asharif Agency launched, from its headquarters in Rabat, a new humanitarian initiative aimed at Palestinian children in Gaza, particularly orphans and amputees. This commitment is part of Morocco’s continued support for the Palestinian cause, in accordance with the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, President of the Al-Quds Committee.

During an information session attended by several prominent figures, including Palestinian Minister of Social Development Samah Hamad, the Agency’s director Mohamed Salem Cherkaoui, and the Palestinian ambassador to Rabat, Jamal Choubki, the initiative was officially presented. Members of the Arab diplomatic corps accredited in Morocco and representatives of Moroccan civil society were also present.

The project aims to support 300 amputee children among the 800 registered by the Palestinian Ministry of Health, as well as 500 orphans under the “Orphans of Al-Quds” sponsorship program, which has been in place since 2008. A psychological support clinic will also be established to assist the identified cases, staffed by volunteer Moroccan and Palestinian specialists.

This initiative is part of a broader framework of active solidarity, strengthened by an agreement signed between the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Asharif Agency and the Moroccan Association for the Reconstruction of Palestine. The latter has pledged three million dirhams to fund the implementation of this emergency program benefiting the most vulnerable children in Gaza.

In his remarks, Mohamed Salem Cherkaoui emphasized Morocco’s steadfast commitment to the Palestinian cause on political, diplomatic, and humanitarian levels. He highlighted the Kingdom’s many initiatives, including the dispatch of over 270 tons of food, water, and medical supplies to Gaza as part of the emergency aid operation ordered by King Mohammed VI.

The Bayt Mal Al-Quds Asharif Agency also carried out numerous actions during the holy month of Ramadan, such as distributing 3,300 food baskets, 30,000 hot meals daily, and providing medicine and medical equipment to Al Hilal Hospital in Jerusalem. These efforts reinforce Morocco’s tangible presence on the ground and its ongoing support for the Palestinian people.

Finally, the Palestinian ambassador in Rabat praised the initiative, calling it a strong symbol of Moroccan solidarity. Mohamed Jamal Bouzidi, president of the Moroccan partner association, reaffirmed Moroccan civil society’s commitment to supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people through concrete and sustained humanitarian actions.
