Oman reaffirms its unwavering support for the Moroccanness of the Sahara

On April 13, 2025, the Sultanate of Oman expressed its firm support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, including the Sahara, during the seventh meeting of the Morocco-Oman Joint Commission. This high-level meeting, co-chaired by Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his Omani counterpart Badr Bin Hamad Bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, served to strengthen bilateral ties and reaffirm the alignment of positions on key regional issues.
In a joint statement issued at the end of the meeting, Oman praised Morocco’s leadership and its commitment to a peaceful solution to the Sahara issue. The Sultanate described Morocco’s autonomy initiative as “serious and realistic,” considering it a solid foundation for reaching a lasting and consensual resolution to the regional dispute.
Oman also highlighted the importance of promoting stability and security in the Maghreb region, emphasizing Morocco’s role as a key actor for peace in the area. The explicit support from a Gulf country like Oman further strengthens international momentum in favor of the Moroccan proposal and further isolates separatist positions.
This renewed support is part of Morocco’s broader diplomatic dynamic marked by growing commitment from Arab partners to the Kingdom’s national sovereignty. It also reflects the strength of Morocco-Oman relations, built on mutual trust, regional cooperation, and the defense of territorial unity principles.
