Terror Plot Foiled in Rabat: DGST Arrests Student Linked to Daesh

On Friday, June 27, in Rabat, the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) arrested a 21-year-old woman who had been radicalized and affiliated with the terrorist organization Daesh. This large-scale operation was made possible thanks to precise intelligence provided by the DGST, a key agency in Morocco’s internal security apparatus, once again confirming its decisive role in countering extremist threats.

The investigation, conducted in close coordination with French intelligence services, enabled the identification of the suspect— a student at a technical institute— and the foiling of a highly dangerous terrorist plot. According to initial findings, the young woman was preparing an attack on a religious site in Rabat, after acquiring knowledge in the fabrication of explosives and poisons, and collecting flammable materials necessary to carry out her plan.

A search of her residence led to the seizure of flammable chemicals, extremist documents, and books promoting hatred and religious fanaticism. Placed in custody under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office specialized in terrorism cases, the suspect is now the subject of a thorough investigation to identify her recruiters and potential accomplices connected to international jihadist networks.

This latest operation highlights the outstanding effectiveness of the DGST in anticipating and preventing terrorist acts, in a regional and global context marked by the resurgence of extremist cells. It also underscores the strategic importance of bilateral security cooperation between Morocco and France, two partners jointly committed to combating violent radicalization and transnational threats.
