Cyberattack in Morocco: Ali Lmrabet lashes out and targets security services

The nihilist Ali Lmrabet has once again made headlines. In a sarcastic tweet, he commented on the recent cyberattack targeting the Ministry of Employment and the National Social Security Fund (CNSS), ironically questioning the absence of the “eye that never sleeps” — a direct reference to Abdellatif Hammouchi, head of the DGSN/DGST security branch. A barely concealed jab aimed at casting doubt on the effectiveness of Morocco’s security services, particularly their leadership.

What Lmrabet pretends not to know — or deliberately chooses to ignore — is that national cybersecurity falls under the authority of the General Directorate of Information Systems Security (DGSSI), a body directly attached to the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), and not the DGSN or the DGST. A surprising confusion from someone who claims to be a well-informed observer of security matters.

But this inaccuracy comes as no surprise from Lmrabet, whose media interventions often betray a persistent obsession with Morocco’s security services. An obsession that leads him to disregard the significant efforts made by these institutions in the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking, organized crime, and illegal migration — achievements widely recognized and praised by Morocco’s Western and African partners.

Lmrabet even goes as far as to criticize Morocco’s security cooperation with Israel, questioning the country’s absence in handling the cyberattack. Once again, he seems to misunderstand the nature of these agreements, which aim to strengthen Morocco’s capabilities through knowledge exchange and training — not to replace national structures. Security sovereignty remains firmly in the hands of Moroccan institutions.
