Abdellatif Hammouchi undertakes a working visit to Vienna

The Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Abdellatif Hammouchi, carried out a working visit to Vienna, Austria’s capital, on May 6th and 7th, leading a security delegation representing both the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) and the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST). This visit reflects Morocco’s ongoing commitment to strengthening regional and international security cooperation.
According to an official statement, this visit was part of the Moroccan delegation’s participation in the 22nd regional meeting of intelligence and security agency chiefs from the Middle East and North Africa, also attended by representatives from Turkey and Pakistan. The event is organized by the United Nations Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team at the Vienna International Centre.
Abdellatif Hammouchi’s active participation in this high-level multilateral meeting illustrates Morocco’s willingness to share its advanced experience in counter-terrorism and transnational crime. It also confirms the Kingdom’s leading role in international efforts to curb contemporary security threats.
Discussions during the meeting focused on the evolving command structures of terrorist groups such as “ISIS” and “Al-Qaeda”, particularly after the loss of their traditional strongholds. Exchanges allowed for an assessment of the threats these organizations pose regionally and globally in the short, medium, and long term.
Participants also analyzed new trends related to the financial resources, weaponry, and logistical equipment used by these groups, including methods of concealing and encrypting funds. Updates in propaganda, media strategy, and internal communication methods within these terrorist organizations were also examined in depth.
Alongside these multilateral activities, the Moroccan Director General held extensive bilateral talks with security and intelligence chiefs from several friendly countries, including Qatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and the United Arab Emirates. These discussions addressed common security challenges and explored ways to strengthen cooperation to more effectively counter emerging threats.
