Moroccan Intelligence: Guardian of National Security and Lever of Global Influence

Morocco possesses an intelligence ecosystem of remarkable richness and diversity, firmly rooted in history and closely tied to the structures of the State. Each service fulfills specific, often complementary missions, ranging from counter-espionage to cybersecurity, foreign intelligence, financial intelligence, and comprehensive territorial surveillance. This architecture, the product of a strategic vision, is built upon centralized coordination ensured by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, and implemented by the government through the Ministries of Interior, Foreign Affairs, and the Administration of National Defense.
The national intelligence apparatus is not limited to institutions well known to the public. It also includes specialized cells operating in highly sensitive, sometimes classified domains, whose missions remain confidential for obvious security reasons. Their discreet yet decisive action plays a vital role in anticipating threats, neutralizing risks, and protecting territorial integrity. Thanks to this structure, Morocco asserts itself as a regional power capable of combining responsiveness with long-term vision.
Moroccan operational leadership is characterized by the simultaneous direction of the DGSN (General Directorate of National Security) and the DGST (General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance) by Abdellatif Hammouchi since 2015. This unique model ensures total coherence between domestic intelligence and public security forces, fostering coordinated operations and the continuous modernization of capabilities. The results achieved have been internationally recognized, as demonstrated by honorary distinctions awarded by Spain, France, and the United States, which commend the professionalism and efficiency of Moroccan forces.
On the global stage, the DGED (General Directorate of Studies and Documentation), led by Mohamed Yassine Mansouri, the first civilian to hold this position, embodies the successful alliance between strategic intelligence and diplomacy of influence. Through its ability to forge strong and lasting partnerships, Morocco has strengthened its credibility in an international environment marked by instability and competition. This recognition, expressed in several capitals, confirms the Kingdom’s stabilizing role as a key player in regional peace and security.
The effectiveness of Moroccan intelligence lies in its ability to combine tradition and modernity, discretion and influence, while keeping national security at the heart of its priorities. This rigorously coordinated and internationally recognized apparatus illustrates the Kingdom’s determination to protect its citizens, anticipate threats, and play a leading role on both the regional and global stage.
