Interpol in Marrakech: Mr. Hammouchi Builds Strategic Alliances with International Delegations

The 93rd Interpol General Assembly, held until November 27 in the ochre city of Marrakech, provided Morocco with an exceptional platform to assert its strategic role in global security. Leading a high-level delegation, Director General of DGSN-DGST, Mr. Abdellatif Hammouchi, conducted a series of bilateral meetings with representatives from dozens of countries, highlighting the Kingdom’s growing presence in international police cooperation networks.

In total, over forty meetings were organized across multiple daily sessions, bringing together security officials from Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas. These encounters enabled the exchange of best practices in security and the exploration of new forms of cooperation, both operationally and strategically. Several delegations expressed interest in the Moroccan model of combating crime and cybercrime, praising its foresight and recognized effectiveness.

In Europe, Mr. Hammouchi met with senior officials from the German, Italian, Spanish, Polish, and Swedish police forces, as well as leaders of police agencies from Eastern Europe and the Balkans. Discussions focused on coordination in fighting transnational crime, information sharing, and implementing joint training and technical exchange programs. This approach reflects Morocco’s commitment to strengthening its security partnerships across the European continent.

The African continent represented another major axis of Moroccan security diplomacy. The Director General held meetings with police chiefs from Senegal, Rwanda, Benin, Cameroon, and Mali, among others. These exchanges aimed to reinforce regional alliances and support continental stability through close cooperation in intelligence and cross-border threat prevention.

Relations with Asia and Latin America were also developed. Discussions with representatives from India, China, South Korea, Chile, and Brazil addressed coordination against transnational criminal networks and the exchange of expertise in specific areas such as cybersecurity and organized crime. These initiatives reflect Morocco’s ambition to extend its security influence beyond its regional borders.

Finally, Mr. Hammouchi devoted a significant part of his agenda to strengthening multilateral cooperation. He met with the President and Secretary General of Interpol, as well as members of the organization’s Executive Committee and the Arab Interior Ministers Council. Several bilateral agreements were signed, notably with the Norwegian and Ethiopian police forces, enhancing operational, technical, and training exchanges. This dynamic confirms Morocco’s position as a central actor in international security and a reliable partner in combating global threats.
