Hicham Jerando, an impostor serving hostile agendas: the obsessive vendetta against Morocco’s security institutions

Every year, between April and July, Morocco’s enemies intensify their attacks on the Kingdom’s security institutions. This period coincides with two key moments: in April, the UN Security Council meeting, often exploited through a human rights lens, and in July, the Throne Day, where royal speeches reaffirm the essential role of security services in maintaining national stability.

It is precisely in this context that shady figures like Hicham Jerando emerge. This individual, turned mouthpiece for a subversive narrative, relentlessly targets Abdellatif Hammouchi, an undisputed symbol of the effectiveness and modernity of Morocco’s security services. But what is Jerando really after? Defending so-called freedom of expression, or carrying out a mission orchestrated from abroad?

In 2021, hostile storytelling peaked with the imaginary Pegasus scandal, claiming that Morocco was spying on… its own sovereign! The absurdity was only matched by the bad faith. Yet in that year’s Throne Day speech, King Mohammed VI explicitly praised the fundamental role of the security services in maintaining the Kingdom’s stability. A clear statement that silenced many malicious voices—except those taking orders from Algiers.

This is the logic behind the Jerando–Mehdi Hijaouy duo. The former, a showman of online slander; the latter, a former DGED agent dismissed for fraud, now on the run somewhere in Europe. Together, they stage fake revelations, repeat baseless accusations, and ride the wave of sensationalism to sow doubt and feed a narrative of rupture.

However, one strange pattern stands out: Jerando, who claims he has nothing to hide, carefully avoids inviting Mehdi Hijaouy onto his livestreams. Why? If he’s so confident in his “sources,” why not reveal their faces and past? The truth is that Jerando is nothing more than a puppet—an online marionette in the hands of far more seasoned manipulators.

These repeated attacks have a single goal: to undermine Moroccans’ trust in their institutions. But their strategy is doomed to fail. Beyond the virtual noise, the Moroccan people recognize the true intentions of these individuals. The Kingdom, meanwhile, continues to move forward, bolstered by its institutions and the trust of its sovereign.
