Diplomats Praise Morocco’s Proactive Approach to Internal Security

On Saturday, May 18, 2025, during the sixth edition of the Open Days of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), held at the Mohammed VI Exhibition Center in El Jadida, a group of 24 diplomats and representatives of international organizations expressed their admiration for Morocco’s security strategy. The visit, organized by the Diplomatic Foundation, was marked by the reception of the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Abdellatif Hammouchi.

The diplomatic delegation, showcasing notable geographic diversity, included ambassadors from countries such as Japan, China, India, Canada, Chile, Australia, Denmark, Mauritania, Mali, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, and South Africa, as well as representatives of security services from the United States and the United Kingdom. This diversity reflects the growing international interest in Morocco’s model of security governance.

The diplomats praised the significant progress achieved by Moroccan security forces in terms of professionalism, technological innovation, and good governance. They held discussions with senior DGSN officials about bilateral and regional cooperation to combat transnational threats, security training, and capacity building within a South-South framework.

One of the highlights of the visit was the meeting with elite units of the DGST, specialized in counterterrorism. Diplomats were able to observe intervention techniques used by these forces, as well as advanced technological tools, including smart drones used for managing major sporting events. These innovations were particularly appreciated in view of upcoming events such as the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 World Cup.

The delegation also toured a museum showcasing the historical evolution of the national police, along with areas dedicated to scientific and technical police work. The presentation of the smart patrol vehicle “Aman”, equipped with facial recognition, automatic license plate reading, and artificial intelligence systems, illustrated Morocco’s commitment to innovative security and technological autonomy.

Statements from diplomats, such as Rwanda’s head of mission Shaquille Umutoni and Chinese Ambassador Li Changlin, emphasized a strong willingness to enhance cooperation with Morocco in the security domain. Congolese diplomat Henri Mangaya described the experience as “exemplary”, highlighting Morocco’s strategic role in regional stability. Chile’s ambassador, Alberto Rodríguez, praised Morocco’s efforts in combating crime and the advanced technology presented during the visit.

These Open Days, held under the theme “Proud to Serve an Ancient Nation and a Glorious Throne”, will continue until May 21, coinciding with the 69th anniversary of the DGSN’s founding. They demonstrate the institution’s openness to both national and international partners, as well as its desire to share its unique expertise.
